Hmmmm……..May the Lord console the parent.
I don’t know when the unnecessary flogging in our Nigerian schools will end, some punishments are just uncalled for.
I remembered when a teacher flogged my younger sister in primary school for not writing date on her note. My sister’s hand became swollen, by the time my mum got back in the evening, my sister could not lift her hand. Trust my mum, she packaged us all to the headmaster’s house that evening, she explained what happened to the headmaster, the man said he would look into the matter tomorrow,my mum said there’s no need to look into it that all she needs from the headmaster is the home address of the teacher (Mrs Oshodi) that flogged her daughter, after so much persuasion and my mum promised the headmaster the she wont cause any scene at Mrs Oshodi’s house, so the headmaster fished out Mrs Oshodi’s home address.
That same evening, mum drove to Mrs Oshodi’s house, when we got there, mum told my elder sister to carry my sister and go put her on bed, and told us to march out back to the car, she then told Mrs Oshodi that God has just increased, that God has given her a daughter without her being pregnant.
And my mum calmly walked out, Mrs Oshodi taught she was dreaming, until mum entered her car and started the engine, that was when Mrs Oshodi realize that she’s not dreaming. She started crying and calling out for neighbors to help. Saying she will never flog any pupil again.
Well, Mrs Oshodi’s husband and neighbors were the people that persuaded my mum to go home with my sister that night.
From that day on, all the teachers in my school drew an invincible line, we don’t go through unnecessary punishments.
